A week based around the topic “Tous à la barre” (” All in the courtroom “). The premise is to stage a mock trial based on cultural rights. In partnership with “Les Têtes de l’Art“.
Fun and citizen-oriented, this participative theatrical workshop aims to promote cultural rights and encourage new forms of “working together”.
Concept: citizens take a group of public authorities to court on suspicion of failing to respect their right to cultural diversity. Right established in the NOTRe law in 2017.
“Everyone has the right to be free to express themselves, including in artistic form, free to choose their cultural practices, free in their cultural identities and in the meaning they give to their lifestyle, and to change them at will”.
It aims to dramatize a rhetoric while strengthening its argumentation. A theatrical approach to adversarial debate designed to grasp the issues at stake in society, and how to express them better verbally.
Each day, from 2pm to 5pm, Christophe Labas-Lafite, comedian and stage director, along with Ferdinand Richard, who specializes in cultural rights, will be leading a theatrical workshop that’s both playful and civic-minded, to stage this mock trial.
Through a series of sketches, participants will adopt different roles, defending an argument on the subject of cultural rights, ranging in tone from serious to downright wacky. Participants will be divided into three groups with different opinions. Either in favor, against or in a neutral position – taking into account the complexity of the given subject. You’ll be challenged to defend positions that are sometimes very close to your own, or totally opposed!
