Collective of indisciplinary performers
ORNIC’ART is a variable-geometry collective of indisciplinary urban performers (visual arts, theater, dance, video) in residence at Marseille’s Friche la Belle de Mai since 1995.
Since its creation in 2002, the company has performed regularly in France and abroad at festivals, public spaces, art centers and national stages that program performance art. The company develops new forms of artistic writing, such as urban performances and immersive installation-performances, which subvert reality and open up original perspectives on the spectator’s relationship with the artist and with performance spaces.
Mixing artistic disciplines
The nature of the artistic collective ensures close collaboration between Urban Arts, Dance and Theatre. Writing is cross-disciplinary, and each creation incorporates a performance principle. They develop new artistic forms; urban performances or immersive installation-performances that open up original perspectives in the spectator’s relationship with the artist and the performance space.
Urban performances
Put the individual back at the heart of the city. Enable them to reshape it according to their deepest desires, and give them the freedom to meet others.
Initially close to the performance-commando, the actions localized in urban spaces in diverse and sometimes unusual contexts, take root in the city and approach it in a political context: Bug Off (2006), Place Nette (2007), Karcher Balade (2009), Bureau des fantasmes Urbain (2012), Code 12 (2013).
Immersive performances
Blurred boundaries between reality and fiction. The influence of time on our identity. Technological progress as an illusory mirror of our quest for freedom in the contemporary world.
Ornic’art invites the audience into a theater of experiences. They are free to choose their degree of involvement, to live an artistic experience rather than remain spectators. At the heart of each project is an installation-performance that immerses the viewer in an intimate, unsettling experience: Idiosouper (2004), XY Wash 45° Couleurs (2005), Clash Temps (2008), Moutons électriques (2012), J’irai danser dans une forêt de sms (2016).
In 2007, Ornic’art launched RedPlexus, a network for the exchange and dissemination of new performance writing. It was the origin to Préavis de Désordre Urbain, an international performance laboratory festival held each year in Marseille since 2007.
A festival committed to addressing contemporary issues, encouraging experimentation, poetic and subversive action, and the recognition and dissemination of performance art.
